About Café Triskell
Our story
Café Triskell is a cozy French bistro in Astoria, New York, created by Philippe Fallait, a French-born chef from Brittany whose passion for cooking began at home. From an early age, he developed a deep respect for authentic flavors, traditional techniques, and the art of sharing food. After refining his skills in France and continuing his culinary journey in the United States—including working as a pastry chef with renowned chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten—Chef Philippe opened Café Triskell in 2007 with a simple mission: to bring New Yorkers the comforting, authentic flavors of Brittany, where traditional buckwheat crêpes were born.
Today, with over 35 years of experience in French cuisine and pastry, he continues to craft classic bistro dishes that reflect both tradition and excellence. From our signature buckwheat crêpes—naturally gluten-free and deeply rooted in Breton culture—to beloved French classics like onion soup and croque monsieur, every dish is made with care and authenticity. Our French onion soup has even been recognized as one of the best in New York City, a true reflection of our commitment to quality and flavor.
The name Triskell comes from a traditional symbol of Brittany, representing three elements in motion—air, water, and earth—and symbolizing balance, harmony, and continuity. This meaning lives at the heart of Café Triskell, where tradition, passion, and experience come together to share the true essence of French cooking, both in our intimate bistro and beyond.
We invite you to visit us at Café Triskell, Astoria, NY, and experience our cuisine in person. You can also explore our online shop, where we offer digital cookbooks, merch, and more—so you can bring a piece of France into your own home kitchen.
Philosophy
At Café Triskell, we believe that cooking is not reserved for a select few—it’s a gift that lives within anyone willing to explore it. Like the idea that “anyone can cook,” we see the kitchen as a place of discovery, not perfection. What truly matters is passion: the desire to learn, to create, and to transform simple ingredients into something meaningful. Cooking is not about titles or training—it’s about heart, curiosity, and the courage to try.
For us, food is more than a recipe—it’s a journey. A journey that doesn’t require a visa, only a willingness to experience, to share, and to connect. Every dish carries a story, every flavor a memory, and every meal an opportunity to bring people together. When you cook, you’re not just preparing food—you’re creating moments, sharing culture, and opening your table to the world.
